About GroupUP

How it works

• Browse. Look at what is happening in your town. No account needed, and nothing to install.
• Join. Say you are coming. That takes an account, because the host needs to know who is turning up.
• Talk. Every event and group has a chat, so plans can be sorted out before anyone leaves the house.
• Host. Post your own. One person deciding on a time and a place is genuinely most of it.

It is free

Browsing is free and joining is free. There is no membership, no paywall, and no advertising following you around — GroupUP does not run ad trackers and does not sell your information. Some events are put on by local businesses and those may cost money to attend, but the price is always the business’s, shown up front, and paid to them rather than to us.

Who runs GroupUP

GroupUP is built and run by Aggregate Community Groups, usually shortened to ACG. ACG is a tool for businesses: it helps local businesses find each other, share work, and organise things together. You can read about that side at About ACG.

GroupUP is the public-facing half of the same product. It runs on the same system and the same accounts, which is why you will sometimes see ACG in a page title, an email or a web address. That is not a different company.

The practical upshot for you: businesses already using ACG can post their own events, classes and outings straight onto GroupUP, so the feed is not only people. When something on GroupUP comes from a business, its page says so.

A few honest things

• GroupUP is new. Depending on where you are, there may not be much on it yet. Posting the first thing in your town is a real option.
• We do not vet anybody. No background checks, no identity checks. Everyone on here is a stranger until you decide otherwise, and how you handle that is up to you. The Terms of Use set this out properly, including some sensible precautions.
• Your profile is public by default — anyone holding the link can read it without an account — and the events you join are listed on it unless you switch that off. Events, groups and city pages are the ones built to turn up in search results; personal profiles carry a “do not index” instruction and are kept out of them. The Privacy Policy explains exactly what shows and what you can switch off.
